Another Week

Well, the last few weeks have been busy, but very good.  I was hanging out with some of the local youth the other night and I said to them how cool it is to be here.  They asked me why.  I said if we were in almost any neighbourhood in Canada right now there would not be anybody on the streets just hanging out and talking like this.  People would most likely be in their house watching TV or a movie.  Which is not bad in and of itself, but we sure lack the sense of community that is here.  I mean there is a little store or Videoke place every 20 feet!  And all of them are full of people just hanging out.  I know it is partly because I am white, but they are all willing to talk to me and help me with anything.

I have really been enjoying the math class that I teach and have had the opportunity to lead several devotional times.  It has been really good to do so.  i have also got to watch Inneke do some stitches (and she wants me to do it next! Yikes!).  It would be very helpful to come here with some basic first aid training, there are huge needs for just basic stuff.  A stitch, clean up a cut, etc...  I have also enjoyed helping to revamp the website, which although I am not an expert at, I hope that I will be able to improve it so that it can become a connection point for people to donate, get a vision, learn about needs to pray for, etc...

What else to say?  I am still happy to be here and feel priviledged to be able to serve these people.  I love interacting with the kids and I am trying to learn Basiya (I think that is how it is spelled?), the local language.  My math students have a test tomorrow!  The test is going to be pretty easy, but I hope I have scared them into getting ready for it.  Again, I'd love to hear from you so drop me a line, dawicks@gmail.com.

Dave, sounds awesome down there, especially all that you are learning and experiencing! Good on ya! I bet the kids are connecting with you like the kids at P&T did!

Anyways, Heidi and I are thrilled for you and all that God is doing in your life! Go get 'em!

Your friend, Glen!

ps -- Are there any good T-shirts down there?
